Places to Visit and Eat

Freo AC Boat Locals.JPG

Our host venue

  • Fremantle Sailing Club is a great place to meet up with your fellow competitors for a meal overlooking the marina.  Click on the link to view the Galley and Sailors Bar opening times.

Fremantle also has loads of restaurants on the Cappuccino strip, (Market Street) and even the Fremantle Markets ( a great place to grab the token gift for the fans at home) will surprise you. For those that are looking for a few pearls hiding from the tourist-centric front row, try these.

Pub Style

Fremantle is home to three large craft breweries and all are fantastic. Think Alan Bond (Swan Lager) inspired venues.

Located beside the Maritime Museum which houses Australia II this is a must-do sunset location. Best Beer and sensational food.

Note: sailors are encouraged to attend the Owners and Friends evening with Australia II Skipper and Crew on Tuesday the 19th at 18:30, followed by casual dining at Gage Roads.

Once the home base to a Kevin Parry’s Americas Cup team Kookaburra(see image below) and then a crocodile park this building has had many lives. A great place to reflect on the 1987 Americas Cup competition which shaped Fremantle to what it is today. Great beer and honest food.

Located opposite the iconic Fremantle Sailing Club. Beyond FSC, this is the closest Bar to your Etchells. If you can’t wait and or endure the 2-minute drive or 5-minute walk to downtown, the Westend or South Terrace, this is for you. A broad range of Beer and other Distilled fair. Modern Food, recommended, pluggers fine.

Precinct – Westend

For those that attended the warehouse party for the 2018 Etchells Nationals. Be amazed by this impressive international Gin distillery and fine eatery which now sits here. Matt Giudice, a former 12 Metre Kookaburra Grinder, is the co-owner with Jason Townes. Another must do.

A bakery with a difference. Long tables, idyllic for large groups.

An modern Italian restaurant on High Street in the west end, which is within Fremantle’s university precinct. A step up in price but delicious and on point for some carbo loading after a day on the water. Great wine list.

Popular for its small bar feel within a large bar precinct. Off the main drag in Market street, great place for dinner in a relaxed format. Gets busy late as a late night bar.

Precinct – South Terrace (South Fremantle)

Big pub, counter meals

Small style bar for urban hipsters

Family friendly inexpensive Italian

This is a great corner to visit, with three strong options, very close to FSC.

Precinct – Downtown

A little bit of farmhouse French style hiding in Fremantle. Booking essential and service focussed. Nice for a small private catch-up with the team.

With a restaurant (Tonic and Ginger) within this is a large venue developed from the state’s first synagogue, note the original Star of David on entry. This venue is a must. Opposite the Fremantle Markets if you need to quickly grab the obligatory take-home gifts for the loved ones. Booking essential to eat at Tonic and Ginger, which won’t disappoint, but get the team you beat to pay!

Off the beaten track. For something different in a way that only Fremantle knows how, give this a go.

Asian Fusion, spicy and rewarding. Great on a hot night with lots of open-air options in the historic courtyard.
